Partner Selection Basics

At account creation you choose one Partner Digimon from fifteen Digi-Eggs. This choice is effectively permanent until Mega Digivolution (Lv90). Combat performance matters for efficiency, but nostalgia and favorite characters are valid reasons to pick anyone.

Partners are the main attacker in 3v3 auto battles. Final power combines Partner stats with Supports, Skill Cards, and Hologram Gear. We rank on solo DPS, skill scaling, Mega potential, and Support synergy.

Compare evolution routes in our partner selection guide and Evolution Path Viewer.

SS Tier — Guilmon

Guilmon → Growlmon → WarGrowlmon → Gallantmon (Virus / Fire) is the top offensive carry at launch. High Combo Damage scaling synergizes with Skill Cards and SP Supports like WarGreymon SP and Pegasusmon. Pick Guilmon if you want fastest Stage progression.

S Tier — Agumon / Veemon / Renamon

Agumon — Vaccine balanced DPS. Mega WarGreymon balances Skill Damage and HP. Beginner-friendly.

Veemon — Free attribute with strong Attack Speed. Imperialdramon line offers mid-to-late versatility and fan appeal.

Renamon — Sakuyamon Mega excels at Skill Critical Damage with HiAndromon Supports. Requires more build knowledge.

A Tier — Terriermon / Gabumon / Patamon

Terriermon — Attack Speed tank through MegaGargomon.

Gabumon — MetalGarurumon combo line; slower early, strong late.

Patamon — Seraphimon holy recovery and synergy for long fights.

B Tier — Other Starters

Palmon, Gomamon, Tentomon, Biyomon — Specialized recovery, defense, or attribute niches. Not weak, but longer time-to-kill than SS–S tiers. Pick your favorite without fear.

Wormmon, Hawkmon, Armadillomon — Free attribute and Armor Evolution themes. Imperialdramon (Wormmon + Veemon lore) adds advanced build options. Less transparent for first-time players.

Salamon — Holy beast route to Magnadramon. Distinctive but general DPS below Renamon.

Why Picking for Looks Is Fine

DIGIMON UP is an idle RPG — daily routine lets B-tier Partners clear content. Partner gaps exist, but Supports, Gear, and Skill Cards create bigger long-term power differences. Raising a Digimon you love is part of the design.

Attributes and Stage Matchups

Partner attributes (Vaccine/Data/Virus/Free) affect damage against Stage enemies via classic Digimon advantage rules. Guilmon (Virus) excels on Vaccine-heavy chapters. Free attribute Partners worry less about matchups but miss attribute-specific Skill Card bonuses.

Evolution Step Count

Tentomon and Palmon have six evolution steps versus four to five for Agumon and Guilmon — a minor speedrun disadvantage traded for unique Mega forms.

Partner Skill Archetypes

Skill Damage: Agumon, Renamon. Combo: Guilmon. Attack Speed: Veemon, Terriermon. Recovery/Tank: Gomamon, Palmon. Build around your summon results; use tiers as reference, not law.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my Partner later?

Not until Mega without rerolling your account. No swap feature exists at launch.

Will I struggle without Guilmon?

Progress may be slightly slower, but content remains clearable. Supports compensate.

Are Veemon and Wormmon a set?

Lore pairing for Imperialdramon, but you pick only one starter. Wormmon solo evolves too.

Weakest Partner?

Armadillomon and Salamon sit lower, but daily progression still works.

Do tiers change after patches?

Balance updates can shift rankings. We re-evaluate after major patches.
